The Plano Juneteenth Planning Committee proudly invites the community to participate in a powerful and historic initiative—“Written In The Stone.” This effort is dedicated to documenting and preserving the stories, contributions, and legacy of African Americans who have helped shape the history and culture of Plano. We encourage you to nominate yourself or a past family member who has made a meaningful impact within the community.
A trailblazer is someone who paved the way for others—often overcoming obstacles, breaking barriers, and creating opportunities where none existed before. These individuals may not always be widely recognized, but their influence is deeply felt through the lives they’ve touched, the progress they’ve inspired, and the foundations they’ve built. Your nominee may be someone who: Led with courage in education, business, ministry, public service, or civic leadership Opened doors for future generations Served as a pillar of strength, unity, and progress in the community Made lasting contributions that continue to impact Plano today.
Written In The Stone” symbolizes permanence. It is a declaration that the history, resilience, and achievements of African Americans in Plano are enduring, unshakable, and cannot be erased. Just like words carved into stone withstand the test of time, so do the legacies of those who came before us. This initiative is more than recognition—it is about preserving history, honoring legacy, and ensuring that future generations know the names, stories, and sacrifices of those who helped build our community. !
